Well, they learned about how to move around by practicing with cables that held them up sideways against a tilted wall. If they jumped, it took them as long to swing back to the wall as it did for gravity to draw them back to the lunar surface. Later, they used clumsy but effective overhead rigs practicing on a rough approximation of a lunar surface, created indoors. Just a sort of small stage so they could get used to picking up rocks with their folding "picker-upper" tool, practice deploying the various scientific instruments, etc. They also did some field trips out to various locations to learn more about rocks etc. so they could tell which samples to bring back.
