Dolley Payne Todd, later to be known as Dolley Madison lived with her first husband and family in Philadelphia. Their home, still standing, is on the corner of 4th and Walnut Streets. It is a part of the Independence National Historical Park and is open for tours. See the park's website for details! www.nps.gov/inde
I would argue that she was not famous when she married Madison. She was the 26 year-old widow of a lawyer in Philadelphia with a young son to care for. She was vivacious and made a good impression at social functions.
The first time she moved to Virginia she was a baby in arms and came with her parents. The second time, she moved to Virginia as the wife of James Madison who lived there his whole life.
I think it was Dolly Madison.
James Madison lived in the White House when the British set fire to it in 1814.Madison had left some time before the British arrived but his wife, Dolley, barely had time to escape before they came to torch the house. The was another serious fire in the West Wing due to a faulty chimney flue while Herbert Hoover was President. The living quarters were not threatened but extensive damage was done to the oval office area.
NO. Madison was in the 1700's before there was a thought of medicare. Medicare came about 150 years AFTER him.
The President that was in office when the White House was burned down was James Madison. It was burned down on August 24, 1814 by British Troops in retaliation for the American attack on York in Ontario, Canada.
James Madison.
hey yea i don't know where this girl came from like which colony so go to a website that does answer your question I'm sorry people
Dolley Madison did quite a bit... She was the first lady to both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison ( Madison was her actual husband, she took the place of Jefferson's wife because she was ill). She had a portrait of George Washington and her husbands most important papers before the White House was burned to the ground. Dolley had a honorary seat in congress and also had the honor of being the first provate citizen to transmit a message via. telegraph!
James Madison oppsed it but he didnt come up with the ammendments he took them from The Constitution.
James Madison (4th president) served after Jefferson and just before Monroe.
President James Madison's wife save many important artifacts and documents when the British set fire to the White House in 1814. This occurred during the War of 1812 between England and the US.
Her name was Dolley and she was a very good hostess as first lady, noted for her vivacity and charm. When the British burned the White House, she saved some valuable document and paintings that were kept there. Later, after Madison died, she came back to Washington and was a darling of the social set .
