Although Japan had been fighting the Chinese in China since 1931, it was on December 7th 1941 that this war grew into a World War. On that date Japanese forces surprise attacked several targets belonging to Western powers. Pearl Harbor in Hawaii was one of these but the very first attack was made against the British Malayan base of Kota Bharu. This attack occurred seventy minutes in real time before the Pearl Harbor raid with the battle lasting several days before British forces withdrew.
