There are many kings in the history of Mesopotamia with the name Sargon: Sargon of Akkad is largely accredited as the founder of the Akkadian Dynasty after invading many cities in the Mesopotamian area. His rule stretched from approximately 2270 to 2215 BC. Sargon I ruled over the Assyrian Kingdom from ca. 1920 to 1881 BC. Sargon II is perhaps the most well-known of the three.
