The following was to be done only on the first Passover - the night of the Exodus from Egypt - not on following years.
The Israelites put drops of blood of the Passover sacrifice on the doorposts of their homes and the lintel (the top of the doorway). Exodus ch.12.
The passover is a festival celebrated by the Jews, it reminds them of the night when they were slaves in Egypt, and they smeared the blood of lambs on the doors and in the night, the angel passed the houses. Those that did not have the blood , had their first born died.

The Seder.
In Israel, the Seder is on the first night of Passover. Outside Israel, Orthodox and some Conservative Jews celebrate Seders on the first two nights of Passover. Most other Jews have a Seder on only the first night, though some may also have Seders on the first two nights of Passover.
The period after Passover is Sfiras HaOmer. It lasts for 49 days. Be aware that it actually starts on the 2nd night of passover, not after it. This is a count towards Shavuos.

The Seder is eaten the first two nights of Passover outside of Israel, and the first night in Israel.
According to Jewish law, one is required to eat matzah at the Passover seder,on the first night of Passover, and also on the second night if outside of Israel.For the remainder of the holiday, the Jew isn't required to eat bread at all. Butif he does feel like it, then it should be the unleavened kind.
