Tourism After the Tsunami, the tourism in Thailand died down to a near zero. Many European governments, including those of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, told their citizens not to travel to the devastated areas on the Andaman Coast. But in an attempt o draw tourists, Thailand assembled a cut-rate 'fun package' deal to encourage tourists to come to the area. This happened too late to save the tourism season, causing hotels and resorts to lose money, and in some cases, close down (in Phuket, 15% of their hotels closed down for good) of course, this meant that more Thai people lost their jobs, and so were in poverty as well as the thousands who lost their homes. But out of the tourists that did come, most of them only came out of curiosity. To find out what had happened there since the Tsunami. But mostly, no tourists went there because they feared another tsunami might hit. Also, the knowledge of so many people having died on that beach made it hard for them to return. The Injured and Dead In Thailand a total of 5, 395 people died as a direct cause of the Asian Tsunami. 3,000 were reported missing in January 2005. In Phuket, the total cost of damages done was 16 billion excluding damages to public facilities and roads. After the disaster on December 26th, disease spread from the dead bodies covering the beaches. All these bodies were moved as soon as was possible, but that didn't stop the diseases from spreading. The hospitals were full of people, and no room was left. Proper medicine had run out so the patients were using aspirin for everything. No help was available immediately because all of the neighbouring countries had the same problems, and so many died because no room was left in the hospitals, and they bled to death. The hospitality sector of Khoa Lak in Phang Nga Province and Phi Phi in Krabi Province is still struggling to cope with unclear government recovery strategies and scarce funding.
