Tet Offensive.
Vietnamization.
The Tet offensive marked the moment when what had been seen as a manageable overseas conflict turned into something much more messy. The assaults launched by the Viet Cong against the South Vietnamese and their US Military allies in early 1968 were a military fiasco. But the size of the offensive, the dramatic increase in US troop numbers it triggered, and the consequent loss of life on all sides, weighed heavily on US public opinion. The offensive also involved a draining battle for the Khe Sanh airstrip, used as a US Marine base. Khe Sanh became a symbol of the war's futility, abandoned as it was in June 1968, deemed to be of no strategic worth
You elbow the offensive player in the eye while the ref has his back turned.

That was the Battle of Midway Island.
Not really. The Gulf of Tonkin is a body of water off the Vietnamese coast. American naval forces operating in the Gulf in 1964 claimed to have come under attack from communist Vietnamese patrol craft, although the truth of what happened remains in much dispute. At the time, the US used the incident as justification to increase its involvement against communist forces in Vietnam, which eventually turned into a huge deployment of US military forces.
the soviets held the germans to a stalemate and then took the offensive and turned the german advance.
The Battle of Midway
A percentage said My Lai; a percentage said Tet; by far the largest percentage said the DRAFT! Watching My Lai and Tet on television was one thing. Recieving your draft notice in the mail was quite another!
By 1970 it was plainly clear that the Unites States people had turned against any further support for the war in Vietnam; and South Vietnamese government was too corrupt an inefficient for them to be able to wage the war for much longer. Funding to support the corrupt South Vietnamese regime was cut back significantly and starting in 1971 the United States military began withdrawing their forces from Vietnam. In 1973, the Vietnamese were left to fight it out for themselves; and in 1975 South Vietnam was overrun and surrendered.
