In the British Isles, children had little knowledge of the war abroad. This was because the British Empire was almost continuously embroiled in international conflicts which made wartime a daily event. British children remained relatively safe in their homeland.
On American soil, however, children's lives were much more sharply contrasted. Like British minors, Patriot children were relatively safe due to British militaristic law and justice which prohibited servicemen from harming women and children (although there were instances in which this law was broken).
American children mostly stayed with their mothers in their homes while the men went off to fight. Unlike their British counterparts, American children often had a good idea of the conflict that was enveloping their homeland. They aided the war effort by helping their mothers produce food and clothing for soldiers.
