According to folklore, an old peasant farmer tripped and spilled some oats into his wife's chocolate candy she was mixing over the fire. She thought it was ruined, and poured into a pan nearby, and later they discovered it had set into a delicious treat.
The actual person behind the genius idea of no bake cookies appears to be unknown.
