Historically, the Greek Gods (and Goddesses) formed from the minds of the ancient Greeks. Many historians believe that the ancient Greeks either explained natural occurrences/landmarks by developing supernatural forces (the gods and goddesses) or the ancient Greek people were simply bored and decided to develop some gods and goddesses to worship (and then the idea was passed on to the next generation).
In the mythology, I believe, if I remember correctly, six gods/goddesses were born unto Rhea, the "head" of the female Titans. Kronos (or Cronus, however you wish to spell it), their father ate them and Rhea somehow managed to keep Zeus from getting eaten. Rhea kept Zeus in a cave while he was growing, and when he was old enough, Zeus cut his father into little pieces with his own sickle (actually, it was a golden sickle, I believe) and scattered his pieces in Tartarus (a horrid place in the Underworld; which I hope that I spelled correctly). Most of the other gods and goddesses, the "minor" ones, were either children of the gods/goddesses, have no recorded "birth" or "creation", or I have not researched properly. I hope that this helped.

Well there are "Myths" of them in roman and greek history giving a theme or a moral to the story. But, if your asking where they lived. They lived on Mt. Olympis while Zues watched over them. I hope I answered your question.
