As long as mankind has tamed horses and made them a part of his life there have been competitions. It seemed natural that men wanted to own the fastest horse so he raced his neighbor. With the riding school in Austria horsemanship was redefined. Horses were not just transportion, they were a status symbol. To a certain degree horses are still somewhat a status symbol, probably because they are expensive to own.
I believe that there are 6 horses you can get. I have the game and there are 4competitions and you get 2 horses at the start. Whenever you win a competition, you earn a horse. You can get up to 10 horses if you breed your own. Enjoy!

John Whitaker, a well-known British show jumper, has a varied number of horses at any given time. He typically has a team of top-quality competition horses for various levels of competition, but the exact number can fluctuate based on partnerships, ownership arrangements, and competition schedules.
Yes. They can be therapy horses, lesson horses, competition horses, ranch horses (like working cattle, etc), plow horses, police horses, and a few other jobs that I cant think of off the top of my head.
The "purse" of a competition is judged by the quality/skills of the horses entering. The more skills of the horses, the better the purse. =)
