Pedroza is said to be first traced back to the 14th Century. It's said that an Irish noble, fled Ireland to Galicia, Spain. Descendants during the early 15th Century, trace back to the names of Andrés de Pedrosa and Fernán Díaz de Pedrosa. Pedrosa coming from "Torre de Pedrosa" (Tower of Pedrosa) that was located in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. And of course it was changed to Pedroza since in Galician and Castilian the z is pronounced "th" and if used for a surname I'm sure it was more appropriate since you see more Alvarez than Alvares or Gonzales than Gonsales.
That's about all I know. I researched Galicia in Spain, check it out. Very much influenced by Celtic tradition, with the exception of the language, Galician is like Spanish-Portuguese mixed together.
Also, I'm Mexican. I also found out that the First Pedrozas came to North America in the 1730s to Nueva Galicia, Nueva España. Which today is Jalisco, Mexico and interestingly enough my parents are from. Still looking to one day trace a direct family line to all this.
Hope that helped. Take care.
