Sadly, the answer before mine was a horrible answer to an easy question. Blue-collar means that it is someone who dose MANUAL labor for an hourly wage. white-collar is someone who's job is not manual.

Many of these manual workers wear a light or navy blue work shirt. Blue is also a popular color for coveralls, Most of the time, these are bought by the employer, and distributed to the work force.
