Acts 9:3-5 - As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" And he said, "Who are You, Lord?" Then the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads." [NKJV]
As Saul was traveling on the Damascus Road the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ appeared to him. At this time Saul experienced the salvation of God, by believing on the Lord Jesus. This was not a dream or a vision but a truly risen, living Son of God who confronted Saul. At that moment Saul realized that he had been persecuting Jesus by way of persecuting His followers and knew at that moment that Jesus was the long predicted Messiah that God had promised the world. I think the scripture you are referring to is found in Acts, chapter 9: 1-19.
It was after Easter.
The name of the dead prophet was Samuel, who was also a judge.

The Lord spoke to Ananias in Damascus about laying hands on Saul (who later became known as the apostle Paul). Ananias was hesitant at first because of Saul's reputation, but he obeyed and baptized Saul, who then regained his sight and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
