In the city of Rome itself, the emperors had houses usually on the Palatine Hill. This was their "official" residence. However all of them had luxury villas scattered over Italy and the rest of the empire as well. In the later years of the western empire some emperors never even lived in Rome at all.

∙ 11y agoNot especially. There were elaborate houses on the Palatine hill that, since the time of Augustus, were used as imperial residences. Each emperor had his own house. The state did not provide housing such as 10 Downing or the White House.

∙ 11y agoThe Roman emperors lived in their private houses or villas. ancient Rome did not have a "White House" or any type of imperial palace. The emperors usually moved into houses on the Palatine, or near to it, and many of them rebuilt or remodeled the existing buildings on the Palatine.
