The Statue consists of an iron/steel framework, covered in copper sheeting. It was built in France, as a gift to the American people. It was erected in what was known as Bedloe's Island (now Liberty Island) in New York Harbor. Although actually on the New Jersey side of the state line, by treaty, the island is in New York, but was ceded to the US Government by New York.
The Base is Concrete, the frame is steel, and the outer covering is copper, which is only 3/32nds of an inch thick.
First, the construction of the statue began in France in 1875, the title of the statue: 'Liberty Enlightening the World' It was presented to the American people
on July 4th 1884.
It was then dismantled and shipped to the United States.
I hope this helps
They shiped it's pieces from England one by one on boats. Then they used machines to put the peices together.
The Statue of Liberty didn't used to be green. it was actuall copper. but the green is a chemical that protected the copper from weather damage. I've always thought that was cool.
They didn't build it it was a gift from France
The statue is made of copper metal pieces that are riveted together over a steel armature. It was shipped over in crates and put together on Liberty Island.
