Sharks usually venture in shallow water when people feed the fish in the area, which attracts more fish into the area, making the sharks starve, and forcing them to go into shallower water to find fish. If people feed the sharks, they may get confused when people are swimming in water, and attack them thinking they are trying to feed them.

Their attacks on humans occur when they mistake a human for a seal, as soon as they realize the mistake they break off and quit the attack, but this is unfortunately often too late for the human.
