Basic Training (or Basic Combat Training) is a term exclusive to the US Army and Air Force - the Marines refer to it as Boot Camp. US Marines attend their Boot Camp either at MCRD Parris Island (in South Carolina) or MCRD San Diego (in California).

Is there any way to go into the US Army without going through basic training?

The only way to enter the US Army as a soldier without going through US Army Basic Training is to be a prior service member, in which case, you would have already gone through Basic Training/boot camp. Otherwise, the answer is no. You could gain employment as a Department of Defence civilian employee, but a lot of those jobs come with a stipulation that you join a reserve component of the military, which is still going to require you to go through Entry Level Training. Even officers have a Basic Training they go to - OBT, or Officers Basic Training.

What is the toughest branch in the military?

The USMC is currently the most difficult to get into. USMC basic training is arguably the hardest boot camp of all branches. Sorry dude, but SEAL training is ridiculously hard, and even though Marines definitely train like hell, SEALs take the cake. Also, surprisingly few people are actually kicked out SEAL training, the vast majority D.O.R. (drop on request) cause it's too hard. SEAL training is SPECIAL FORCES. Look at the answer: toughest BOOT CAMP (BASIC). No doubt SEAL training is the toughest but, for basic the CORPS is the toughest, even SEALS have to go through BASIC. I agree. The Marine boot camp is the toughest. *Comment from personal experiance. ;)
