I also have a 2005 Range Rover. I am a mechanic also. The factory recommends ONLY synthetic oil every 15,000 miles. I change my oil and filter every 7,500 miles. Sounds like your gearbox or clutch may have messed up. Check your clutch and gearbox fluids and then secondly check the clutch plates and gearbox.
