You can connect it to any large bolt on the engine, but be careful of the pulleys and belts. Make sure it is clear of these. I would look at another car of the same make, model, & year to see exactly where the factory connected the cable.
EDIT: Good Idea--make Sure it's not a Positive-Ground car, too! (Some Were!)
YES always disconnect the negative cable from the battery first then just be careful to hook up the negative cable to the battery as the last step
you hook the positive cable,(usually the red) to the positive battery terminal first then you hook the negative cable(usually black) to the negative terminal if you hook it the other way you can get sparks or arcing that can cause damage or a fire PS: if both cables are same color, the negative cable is the one bolted to the frame or the engine.the poitive is bolted to the solenoid or starter
I would suspect a loose or corroded battery cable. Remove the negative - cable first and clean both cable connection and the battery posts. Hook the positive + cable back up first. Can also be a starter solenoid going bad.
Lift up the engine cover (under the passenger front seat) by the two hinges and support the engine cover with the clip on the left hand side (should be attached to seat with a bracked on the seatbelt pillar to hook onto). Battery should be clearly visable. Just connect your postive and negative to the battery (make sure you get it right!) and dont let the wires touch each other and your away!
Hook up a battery charger to it.
un-hook the negative battery cable from the battery for 15 minutes and then re-attach cable.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes then re hook.
Connect the Positive + battery cable to the positive + battery post first. Then connect the Negative - cable to the negative - battery post.
disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds and hook it back up.
The negative terminal is not supposed to be hooked to the battery. You always start with the positive cable, and then hook the negative cable to a peice of metal. Either the engine, block, frame, strut tower, something other than the starter. The reason for this is because when you hook up the negative cable, it can cause a spark, and also cause a explosion.
Audio battery???? If you mean Auto Battery then Red Positive (+) RED cable goes to Positive (+) post on battery. Black Negative (-) cable goes to Negative (-) post.

With any battery on any car, the negative cable is ALWAYS the first off and last on.
Connect negative (-) black cable first. Then connect positive (+) cable last. You will see a + and a - next to the posts. Hook up positive first, negative last.
Always hook up the red or positive cable first, otherwise you could cause a short between the battery and the car through your wrench. Ths of course could cause an explosion or other problems. The black or negative cable goes straight to the engine and the car's frame, so your wrench can touch the frame when you are tightening the cable end on the battery with no worry.
there is a positive battery post under the hood of the car that you use for your positive cable hook-up and then connect your negative cable to any metal portion on the engine.
