Labrador came from the Scandinavian countries originally. They were bread as fishing dogs, that's why they have webbed toes. They are the only dogs I believe to have webbed toes, and it makes it easier to swim.
If you have a lab then you will know just how much they love they water. Bassy, my lab, wont stay out of the water. If he sees water his in whether it's the beach, river, pool, or even shower.
I have a small green plastic pool for Bassy and he is always in it, no matter how hot, or how cold.
They are also the most popular dog in Australia. With big floppy ears and a wonderful nature they are hard not to love. Mind you when Bassy digs holes in your favorite garden, love does not come easy. lol
