Labradors are generally associated with game bird hunting, like duck, pheasant, etc.
When properly trained, their natural instinct is to retrieve the downed bird and bring it back to the owner. Hence, the full name of 'Labrador Retriever'. One of the other aspects of labs is that they have webbed feet, which are great for swimming.
Not only that, labs are a wonderfully good natured animal and make super companions.
