In the physical, you go nowhere. Your heart ceases to beat, and you die. Your body will decay, and the elements of your body will return to the earth. Their bodies are usually buried, or cremated (the body is burnt).

However, there is differing belief or opinion on what happens to your soul upon death, or of the "afterlife" (if there is one). Soul: the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life.

One who is a Theist, or who believes in a "God" (the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe) who actively plays a part in our world. Polytheists believe in multiple "Gods". Theists usually believes in some sort of Heaven, or eternal resting place without suffering for the souls of the saved. There is also usually a counter belief of Hell, a place of suffering for those that have sinned unforgivably. Some believe in reincarnation; that your soul is born again in another body. But every religion will have a slightly different outlook on the subject. Do research, and see what different religions believe.

A Deist may have personal beliefs, but the outlook is usually one of the physical. They are not Theist, in the fact that they believe "God" created the world but has no active role in it.

Agnostics may have differing personal views on what may or may not happen. They believe that neither the argument for or against "God" can be proven. Some believe we will know it someday, and others believe it is unknowable. So, in words many of what a Agnostic may or may not believe is open. They are usually more scientific in nature.

An Atheist believes there is no "God". They believe in the physical and the scientifc.

However, for all the beliefs we have, nothing has been proven as to what may exist beyond this physical world. It also has not proven that there is definitively nothing beyond this physical world. To a hole on earth or to ashes in my case

No one can say with certainty.
Many religions believe there is another place and life, very different to this one, where we go when we die.
Others say there is nothing further when we die and that this is all we have.

Different religions have different answers for this. The answer usually involves some sort of afterlife - meaning that a part of us, called the "soul", continues living, and is (usually) in some world different to this one. But all this is hard to prove - or to disprove.

One of the central beliefs of Judaism, as stated in the Talmud (Mishna, Sanhedrin 11:1) and codified by Rambam (Maimonides, 1135-1204), is that the soul continues to exist and is treated in accordance with the person's actions while he or she was alive.
The Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) doesn't dwell at length on the afterlife; and nor do we spend a lot of time speculating on its details. However, that is not meant to diminish from its importance. Rather, the message is that we are to use the bulk of our energies in keeping God's ways and commands in this world, with our feet firmly planted on Earth, while nonetheless not losing awareness of our beliefs.
The ancient sages stated the importance of being aware of the next world: "This world is a mere entrance-hall before the afterlife" (Mishna, Avot ch.4).

All outstanding accounts are settled after this life. Some cases illustrate this point, since this entire world wouldn't be enough to reward a Moses or punish a Hitler. And while we're alive, knowledge of the future world serves as one of the motivations to keeping God's will.

The Tanakh does not delve into detail of the rewards of the righteous because competition could result, with each claimant making ever more poetic promises. Also because belief in the afterlife was shared by all ancient societies and needed little reiteration. Besides, it would be like describing the colors of a sunrise to someone who was blind from birth.
It is, however, referred to briefly in Torah verses such as Genesis 15:15, which states that "You (Abraham) will come to your fathers in peace and will be buried in good old age." Coming to his fathers does not mean simply to be buried with them, since Abraham was not buried with his ancestors. Such verses are stated many times.
The prophets are more explicit with such references (see Isaiah 26:19 and 66:24, Daniel 12:13, Zechariah 3:7, 1 Kings 8:30, 2 Kings ch.2, Ecclesiastes 12:7). The afterlife is spoken of at length in the Talmud. More than 20 pages of Talmud (Sanhedrin 90-110, Rosh Hashanah 16-18, and other passages) are given to this subject.
