Where do sawfish live?

Sawfish live in different places, depending on the species. They are found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian ocean and Pacific Oceans, e.g. the waters around the northern half of Australia, although some are found as far south as Sydney. They are also found in Atlantic waters, in tropical and sub-tropical regions.

Habitats vary. They are incorrectly reported in Wikipedia as living in only shallow, muddy water, but this is not necessarily the case.

They can be found in:

• coastal and estuarine habitats
• mudflats
• marine waters, to a depth of up to 40m
• the Freshwater sawfish is found in fresh or brackish rivers of northern Australia, with a range sometimes extending over 100 km inland
