bring the timing mark to 0 if you cant see the timing mark take out the number one spark plug and bring the number one piston up then take the cap off see where the rotor is pointing that will be number 1 then put in firering order clock wise from there the firering order is on the intake if it is factory one
firing order from spark plug to the distributor cap
The pickup coil in a 1991 Chevrolet vehicle is typically located inside the distributor housing. To access it, you'll need to remove the distributor cap and rotor, exposing the coil mounted on the distributor shaft. The pickup coil is responsible for generating a signal that tells the ignition module when to fire the spark plugs. If you're troubleshooting ignition issues, it's important to check this component for proper function.
Check the pickup inside the distributor and see if its OK. Do you have spark at the ignition coil? Check the wires. Or the cap and rotor assy.
v8 should be 18436572
There is a problem in the distributor. Either the pickup coil or the ignition module are defective. It may be cheaper to purchase a remanufactured distributor.
Spark plug knock on a 1998 Chevrolet pickup is an indicator that the ignition timing is correct. By adjusting the timing, the knock can be eliminated.

Bad coil? Bad distributor cap? Bad distributor rotor?
I would replace the ignition module in the distributor.
.045 plug gap.
The firing order on all Chevrolet engines is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. 1,3,5,7 are the left bank and 2,4,6,8 is the right bank and the distributor turns clockwise.
If it has points in the distributor then it is 0.035 If it has an HEI distributor then it is 0.045
