They do not cut your femoral artery for a cardiac catheterization. They use a needle to puncture it, pass an introducer and then guidewires, etc, into the arterial circulation. The point of entry is in the femoral artery, usually just distal to the inguinal ligament in your groin.

What artery supplies blood to the head of the femur?

Medial Femoral Circumflex... Without this artery blood supply to the head of the femur is cut off and the head of the femur will die

If a main artery in the leg is cut how long will it take for you to bleed to death?

If it is the femoral artery, you will bleed out extremely fast. Probably faster than it will take you to get to a hospital. Being the main artery in the leg that comes directly from the aorta, it contains an immense amount of pressure, which means, LOTS of blood.

Can an individual live without their Femoral Artery?

The survivability of a bullet wound to the femoral artery is dependent on many factors. The most important factors are the severity and location of the bleeding and the availability of advanced medical care. The size of the victim, the possibility of infection, and the activity of the victim after being shot are all also extremely important. Serious bleeding from the femoral artery must be properly treated immediately. A few minutes can be all that is necessary for the wound to guarantee permanent disability such as brain damage or the need for amputation. A wound to the upper femoral artery caused by a direct shot from a heavy rifle slug is likely to kill within ten minutes.

Why is a cut artery more serious than a cut vein?

An artery in the body is like the highway where veins are the main street's. In an artery there is much more volume of blood being moved at a faster speed. It carries more blood because it is bigger then a vein. If you cut a vein the volume of blood loss would be less because of the size limiting the flow. If the femoral artery was cut the blood loss would come out much faster and be much more serious. You could expel all of your blood in a matter of minutes before a life squad could get to the scene.

When you will die when you cut vein or artery?

It depends on the severity of the cut. If you cut an artery, you are more likely to die, or at least more quickly.

Can you die from hitting the vein in your leg?

Yes, it would be the femoral vein. If it is cut, you could die in a matter of seconds. If it is just injured, then a clot could develop. While death from the initial injury would not be immediately, a thrown blood clot could cause an immediate, life-threatening condition.

Will you dies fast if your femoral artery gets cut?

Dying from cutting hardly works at all, just a heads up if your'e thinking about it. If you cut the femoral vein there would be a lot of blood, and would be difficult to stop the bleeding, but ti would be possible, however, purposely cutting that isn't very possible in the first place, not reasonably anyway.

How long can you live with a severed artery?

It depends on which artery. If your femoral artery is severed, you have minutes to live without immediate medical attention. Same for the Carotid artery in your neck, or the jugular vein in your neck. If the aorta artery feeding your heart goes, same thing. I would say the smaller the artery, the longer you may have to live before you bleed out. The biggest life threat as far as arterial bleeds is the aorta. If any part of the aorta ruptures, a surgeon couldn't save you if he already had you cut open on the table. Essentially, if the aorta ruptures, it will only take about 3 beats of the heart to bleed out. The further away from the heart you get, the slower the bleed will be, but any compromised artery is potentially life threatening. The femoral artery in the thigh (the femur is the thigh bone, hence the name fermoral) is another big bleeder. The carotid is the second biggest life threat if it's compromised. So basically, if the aorta ruptures, 3 heart beats. If the carotid ruptures, perhaps 2 minutes. If the femoral is severed, perhaps 5 minutes. The difference is that the carotid and the femoral arteries can be controlled with proper treatment. The aorta is untreatable once it's compromised.

Is it more dangerous to cut a vein or artery and why?

An artery because blood is pumped through the arteries at a much higher pressure than the veins. Therefore if you cut an artery you will lose a lot more blood a lot quicker than if you cut a vein.
