Assuming you mean an automatic transmission, the dipstick is on the right hand side of the engine bay. You'll need a small tipped funnel to add fluid down the tube. If your referring to a manual transmission, there will be a fill plug on the side of it.

Any type of SAE certified transmission fluid can be used in the 1997 Acura. The transmission should never be overfilled.

if it is anything like my 97' Saturn Sl2. The engine must be dropped out to dismount the transmission.

14 quarts of transmission fluid with torque converter emptied, 7-8 quarts of transmission fluid with just the pan removal and pan emptied.

A 97 Saturn that stays in forward gears could be one of two problems. Either the electronic transmission controls are stuck in forward, or the internal bands in the transmission have welded themselves together.

7-9 quarts Add 7 quarts & check add as needed, general they will hold 8, but if you drain the converter you will need to add 12 quarts

Thru the transmission dip stick. You will need a nice sized funnel, with a big mouth and a small base for faster pouring but any will due as long as it fits.

If you're trying to to locate the the dipstick (which is the location you add additional fluid) standing at the grille look WAY down toward the bottom of the left side of the engine. Down among the hoses and other engine parts you should see the transmission dipstick.

typically it is done around 100,000 miles. If it doesn't have a sealed transmission (which the metro doesnt) you should change the fluid.

User Avatar

yes, been there done that works beautifully get the trans rebuilt while its out of the car itll make it much nicer ride especially if its a standard

The same place where you check it, there is a tube that comes up in the right center behind and to the left of the coolant reservoir. It has a small black ball on top. That is your transmission fluid dipstick. Pull that out and if you need to add fluid put a funnel in that tube and do so.

If auto through the dipstick tube If std. through plug in side of transmission
