I hope you're not thinking it's what it isn't. What it is: a small, soft, elongated spongecake. Maybe at some time it struck some baker as being reminiscent of a lady's finger. However, I've never known of such a lady or her finger. If you've ever had what's called a British Trifle (sometimes called, simply, a Trifle) ladyfingers are what line the outside of the dish (inside the dish are layers of custard, jam or jelly, sherry or liqueur and cream). BTW: ladyfingers have nothing to do with James Bond.
