I found a transmission dip stick on the top right of the engine - up under the hood between the firewall and the engine - you need good light and I've yet to figure out how to fill the fluid, since the dipstick is horizontal and normally it's how you fill the fluid.
So, we're a step closer.

Same place you check the fluid level.
It could be a problem with your transmission. The same thing just happened to me. It required replacing some of the internal transmission parts, but did not require replacing the entire transmission.
how do you check transmission leval on a 03 Chevy impala
how do you check transmission fluid level in a 2001 chevy metro
Check the vin #'s because in the 1990's Chevy called their smaller line of vans "Lumina" also.

You can check the fluid in your 1995 Chevy Cavalier transmission with the transmission dipstick. The transmission dipstick will be on the left-hand side of the transmission and have a bright yellow handle.
Check the relay.
Driver, Check out : www.fueleconomy.gov/ for the official mileage ratings.
TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!, TRANSMISSION. First check the level of transmission fluid and if there is fluid in there ( to check fluid warm up engine and check the level with the transmission in PARK and the engine must be running) smell the fluid if it has a burnt smell and is dark then you may have fried your transmission. A transmission repair can be expensive so please get at least three repair quotes. DEAD tranny man........
Depends on your climate. Check your drivers manual.
I would go to your car dealer and check if the service dep will give you a print out. a did a 90pont transport and it was quite easy .
