Your bird feeder should be placed close to shrubs or trees. It should also have a bird bath close by.

It does not need to be very close to shrubs and trees. In fact it's better away from them, to make it harder for squirrels to rob the food.
You should put out a bird feeder not so soon yet. You could wait until May so that the birds will actually come out and get seeds or whatever you may be putting out. If you put it out when it is very cold the seeds might become to solid. Try putting out your bird feeder in the mid and late spring and maybe some summer months.
If this helped please be thankful because I am 9 yrs old when I posted this!
Humming birds drink or live on nectar from flowers. Nectar substitute can be made from sugar and water. This solution can then be put in humming bird feeders. When the flowers come out in your area of the world, then it is time to put the humming bird feeders out. As the summer flowers die out, it is then time to put the feeders away so that the birds can migrate south, back to sunnier climes .Humming birds do not eat seeds.
Locate bird feeders and houses in several types of locations around the yard to attract different types of birds. Some birds eat 'on the wing' while others prefer to perch an a ledge or eat from the ground. Similarly, some birds prefer houses set at different heights or with different amounts of cover. Pick quiet locations where there are not outdoor cats or other predators roaming around, and make sure that the feeders are visible to you from the house so that you can enjoy your feathered visitors!
I believe that the best place is outside a window for easy viewing under the eves on the shady side of the house. That keeps your feeder out of the heat of the sun.
Well, I take mine down a week or two after I have seen the last bird. They know when it is time to go. You cannot trick them into staying longer than they want to.

Hummingbird nectar feeders, suet cake feeders, thistle sock feeders, tray feeders, and many others.
Early Spring
yes you can
Yes, woodpeckers drink from hummingbird feeders. Red-bellied woodpeckers even pulled the plastic flowers off the feeding holes of my hummingbird feeder in order to get better access. I have also seen downy woodpeckers use hummingbird feeders.
Sugar water. They like red feeders. Google hummingbird+feeder for more.
That is normal behavior for a hummingbird. You can try making several different hummingbird feeders available so they don't have to share the same one.
Blown glassing hummingbird feeders can be found by visiting a local major retail store. Different stores that have gardening supplies are sure to have them. Stores like Walmart and K-Mart.
yes because it is toxicso kill the birds
Yes, they do, and they love to. They may even drink nectar from hummingbird feeders.
A bird?
Look to see if there are still hummingbirds using the feeders, if there are then these birds will require you to keep feeding them for as long as they come for food.
