Okay, so Darren Shan is just an ordinary boy, but then his life changes when he goes to a freak show(Cirque du Freak). He goes to this freak show with his friend Steve. So they go and see all of these freaks. But then Mr. Crepsley goes onstage and he has a cool spider (Madam Octa) who you can control with your mind if you really concentrate and have a flute. Darren really likes Madam Octa, but then Steve sees Mr. Crepsley and gets really scared. After the show, Darren hears Steve asking Mr. Crepsley to turn him into a vampire, and Darren find out that Mr. Crepsley is a vampire! Then Mr. Crepsley tests Steve's blood and says that he has terrible blood and that he is evil >:( . Well, anyway, after some days, Darren still loves the spider and finally steals her from Mr. Crepsley! After a while, Darren wants to show the spider to Steve and does. That's when the real trouble begins. The spider gets on Steve's neck and Darren tries really hard to concentrate and makes sure that the spider doesn't do anything to Steve, but then Annie (Darren's little sister) comes in being loud, Darren stops concentrating, and the spider bites Steve. It only takes two bites to kill someone and the spider is ready to go for the second bite, but Darren takes the spider. Darren doesn't want to tell anyone about the spider because his parents don't let him have spiders, so he tells his mom that he went to the bathroom and that when he came out, he was a paralyzed. So then they take him to the hospital, but the doctors can't find out what's wrong, so Darren goes to talk to Mr. Crepsley. He asked him if he had a cure, and he did, but Darren has to do something in return for him. He has to becomes a vampire's assistant. Darren accepts. So Darren becomes a half-vampire, and he and Crepsley go to the hospital and put the medicine on Steve, saving him just in time. Then Darren makes a run to the door because he doesn' t want to go with Crepsley. But then the next day he sees differences in himself like that he wants blood and can't sleep. So he goes back with Mr. Crepsley and they fake his death. Then Mr.Crepsley goes to the graveyard where they buried Darren and he digs him up. They both go on and Darren has a new life as a vampire's assistant.

Darren goes to Mr. Crepsley and asks for an antidote for the poisoning. Mr. Crepsley gives him the antidote, but Darren has to become a half vampire and his assistant. Mr. Crepsley cuts the tips of his and Darren's fingers. They press their hands together, letting eachother's blood flow into them. They hold it there for a few seconds, exchanging blood. basicly as i read it quite a while ago this is what happens in the end mr tiny reveals that he is the "father" of steve and darren-this making why the book was called 'sons of destiny- and he created them to see which one will be the most powerful and they will be lord of the shadows. so while a big fight between the two different vampires steve and darren have a big fight-with mr tiny watching-and it ends with darren killing steve but while they are lying on the floor darren relises that he doesn't want this and forces steve to kill darren too thus ruining mr tinys plan. but it doesn't stop there oh no! it takes you to what you soon find out he is that lake of souls thing but after a while he sees evanna (who is his half sister) and does a deal with mr tiny to turn him into a little person so he can go to paradise. mr tiny lets darren go back in time to stop himself from going to see steve talking to mr crepsley changing history and then finally darren dies and goes to paridise :) the end! but really you have to read the book fully it amazing! and MUCH more deatail than this even me writing this makes me wanna read the book again! hope this helps! Darren defeats Steve, but before he dies, Mr. Tiny comes and tells them that he is their father. That he set up the entire "Lord of the Shadows" thing and that he would manipulate the winner of their battle, until he ruled the world. Darren didn't like this, so he let Steve kill him. Both of their souls end up in the Lake of Souls. 200 yrs into the future, Evanna fishes out Darren, and Mr. Tiny lets him become a little person. Des Tiny no longer has an intrest in Darren, but Evanna made a deal. She got pregnant and Tiny turned Darren into a little person and gave him a single chance at saving his soul. Evanna sews something into Darren's Little person robes, unoticed by Tiny, and they sent him to the place that started it all--the Cirque Du Freak. He finds out that the object Evanna put into his robe was his diary, and she filled it in on what he had to do to free his soul. As the younger him goes up to the bakcony where he overhears the conversation that changed his life. Before young Darren gets to the top, Little Person Darren comes up behind him and pulls off his hood, scaring the young Darren into running all of the way home. He then give the diary to Mr. Tall, who doesn't yet know him, but promises to mail the diary to Darren when he is older. Then Older Darren can publish it and the Vampires will see his story and never trust Tiny again. He then goes off on his own and dies. Darren goes to paradise and spends the rest of time with Mr. Crepsley.
