Mac OS X stores a user's System Preferences settings in the Preferences folder with the Library folder for the user's account. The screen sharing settings are stored in the preference file called com.apple.ScreenSharing.plist.
Mac OS X stores most preferences in the Preferences folder within the Library folder. There are two Library folders one at the hard disc level available to everybody and one in each user account where individual users keep their personal settings. You ask the administrator to give you access to the System Preferences. They will usually say "No".
If your looking for the "Settings, Control Panels, Properties, etc." then Apple call's them System Preferences.Hard Drive/ Applications/ System Preferences.orDashboard/ System Preferences (the pop up bar usually at the bottom of the window)
Generalised System of Preferences
There is no Control Panel in Mac OS X. Various options can be set in System Preferences which is usually included in the Dock on a new Mac. It can also be launched by selecting System Preferences... from the Apple menu or launched directly from the Applications folder. Other options will need to be set in the Preferences of individual applications.
