The Monk parakeet (Quaker parakeet) originates from the temperate to subtropical areas of Argentina and the surrounding countries in South America. Self-sustaining wild populations descended from escaped birds occur in many places, mainly in North America and Europe.
Monk parakeets are communal dwellers, building large nests of sticks that may measure three or four feet in diameter and house dozens of birds. They prefer tall free-standing objects about 20 - 40 feet in height, being (in South Florida) especially fond of Royal palms and the light poles at ballparks.
Monk Parakeet was created in 1783.
