Depends on the type of tarantula. Some rainforest tarantula's are in trees while there is one that lives in a desert. They all like to hide in places. I have had several and have always provided them a spot where they could hide. The trap door tarantula is a cleaver fellow that builds a trap door over it's hole or den and then jumps out at its prey. I don't know that you could really say they "sleep" because they are always on the hunt for food and react the moment that something comes along.
