Why does Jigsaw torture and kill people?

I think he uses an injection/syringe to sedate his victims. In Saw 3D Dr Gordon and 2 other pig-heads attack Hoffman and Gordon stabs Hoffman with an injection. It then makes them feel weak and Hoffman passes out. Then it gives the chance for the Pig-head that stabs him to put him in his trap. Hoffman was put in the bathroom trap and was left to die with all the other corpses.I hope that you like my suggestion of my answer.

Jigsaw usually created deadly tests for his subjects, where often a symbolic representation of what could be seen as a flaw in the person's life. He claimed that he was attempting to help his victims to appreciate their lives by jump starting their survival instincts by placing them in life threatening situations.

Because he wants to teach people to cherish their own lives, and to care about the welfare of their fellow man. He chooses victims whom he thinks don't appreciate life enough, and who have committed offenses against their fellow man. Because apparently you can't truly enjoy life unless you've been permanently disfigured, maimed, mutilated, battered and gored.

And the "offenses" that his victims have committed get sillier and sillier with each sequel. His victims used to be rapists and thieves who stole from the poor. Now, you could wind up in one of Jigsaw's torture chambers because you callously declined to hold the elevator door for someone, or because you spit on the sidewalk with wanton disregard for the No Spitting ordinance. It's really pretty ridiculous.

The reason "Jigsaw" does what he does is because he had became very sick. Dr. Lawrence Gordan , One of the main characters in the first saw film, tells him that he has cancer. So he tries to kill him self. He drove his truck off of a cliff but it could not kill him. John aka known as Jigsaw, realized that his body could take the plow of the height of the drop but could not protect him from cancer cells. So he chose to test the fabric of human life.

The piece of skin that he takes from his victims is the piece of every ones life that we should have. The Servivle Instinct. He never wanted the name Jigsaw neither does he take the name.
