This event occurs only in Matthew 27:52-53. At the moment of Jesus' death, there was a violent earthquake, the graves were opened and many of the bodies of the saints arose and walked into Jerusalem, where they were seen by many. The gospel fails to tell us why the bodies arose, nor what happened to them afterwards. Ian Wilson (Jesus: The Evidence) says that it is probably safest to regard this account as a pious embroidery by an author demonstrably over-fond of the miraculous.
Another View:
The account in Matthew 27:51-54 is mysterious to say the least. But a few points to consider: it was the 'saint' who came out of their graves - saints are sanctified or set apart people, all of God's people. Scripture tells us these must await the 7th Trumpet blast to be quickened or changes into spiritual sons/daughters of God meeting Jesus in the sky upon His 2nd Coming (see 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
Apparently, after God brought these saints back to life, they probably went back to their homes to be with family and friends. Quite a startling life experience to say the least. Eventually, as The Bible is silent on them after these verses, they died again and were buried again awaiting the call to their resurrection to spiritual life.

The Bible says that when Christ returns all the faithful will rise up out of their graves and meet Him in the sky. They will be given eternal bodies. Then the few people that are left on Earth (the God fearing faithful) will rise up and meet Him in the sky.
In the bible, it says the Earth is Flat, so it is Flat. If God created the Earth and Jesus wrote the bible, the Earth is Flat
