The Phoshpholipid are the predominant lipids of cell membrane. They can act as anchors to cell proteins. Phospholipids can also exist out of cell membrane.
They both surround and protect the cell.
For plant cells, there is a cell wall outside of the cell's membrane. Animal cells do not have walls, so there is no structure outside of the cell membrane.
