Best Answer

The food enters the stomach which breaks down much of the larger pieces of food because of its acidic nature. After this preliminary digestion the food enters the small intestine where more digestion occurs and the adsorption of useful material starts, for example many sugars, fats and proteins are taken in by tiny structures called micro-villi that line the walls of the intestine. When sufficient adsorption has occurred the waste is sent to the large intestine, here it is compacted and any excess water is taken away. This is then passed from the body as feaces

Hope this helps

Once food has been broken down by the hydrochloric acid in the stomach, it passes down the small intestine. Pancreatic enzymes, bile and other digestive enzymes found here help to break down the food further. Reabsorption of valuable nutrients into the blood stream also occurs here. Food then passes into the large intestine, where some water and electrolytes (e.g. sodium) are reabsorbed before it reaches the colon. From there, solid waste is stored in the rectum until it is excreted by the anus.
