Where does the gas hose connect to a 1982 suzuki GS650 mikuni carburetor?

I have a 1982 Suzuki GS650L, and I learned the connection of the tubes the other day when I took the tank off to repaint it. There are three tubes that connect to the petcock, which is the valve on the bottom of the gas tank. When you are on the left hand side of the bike looking at the tank, you will see two places on the right hand side of the petcock. The gas hose connects to the connector on the petcock in the front, not the back. The other one is for the vacuum on the carbs. There are two distinctly different sizes of tube connectors on the petcock, and you will see a slight difference in the tubes coming to the petcock. The gas hose goes from the petcock in between carbs two and three (the very middle) and connects to a valve on the carb. You will see a gold looking nub that you have to connect the tube to.

Where is the Air Filter on a 1982 Suzuki GS650?

looking at the bike head on (in front of it), its on the left side. You'll have the remove the plastic cover (should be painted the bike's color and say GS650 on it. It just prys right off. The air box is a black box with a circle indention and a raised cross on the front. (Sorry for the crappy description). There are two metal sliders on top and on bottom. Slide these off and the front door will come off. Your filter should be lying inside. Hope this helps -Long live the Suzuki GS!

Suzuki GS650 Ignition timing?

The GS 650 has fully transistorized ignition system. I have a 1982 GS 650 G with the original Suzuki service manual. There are several bullets in the manual highlighting the features/benefits of this system. The bullet of interest to you is the following one which I quote from the manual: "*Ignition timing is maintained properly at all times and requires no maintenance." My Norton driving neighbor says there must be a way to adjust the timing and that I just haven't found it. Not so- these bikes do not need timing adjustments.

What basic maintenance should you do on a 1982 Suzuki GS650?

Lube all cables, change all case fluids, adjust/ bleed brakes (change fluid if applicable), inspect overall condition and tires, inspect/adjust chain tension, check lights, adjust carb(s), change all filters (istall in-line fuel filter if possible), change plug(s), refill with mid-grade fuel. That should get you through maintenance, and should be done periodically, with light checks and services throughout the riding season. Same as above but also oil chain.
