During travels to Norway, I was advised by a local preacher that my last name of Fondren originated in the Norwegian village of Fondrem (pronounced fondrayam). These Fondrems immigrated to Ireland and thence to America where it was Americanized as Fondren. This information matches my own family's stories. I had always been told I was part Irish.
