Assuming the car is a V8, have someone show you how to get the #1 cylinder (front one on driver's side) to Top Dead Center. Remove distributor cap and note where the rotor is pointing. Reinstall distributor cap. Where the rotor was pointing is where you insert #1 plug wire. From there insert the rest of the plug wires (clockwise)1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 From the front-- 1-3-5-7 are on the drivers side and 2-4-6-8 are on the passenger's side. Make sure to install coil wire to distributor.
If the timing marks are on "0", turn the distributor about 1/4 inch counterclockwise to give it enough advance to start. Next, have someone show you how to use a timing light.

2 bolts hold it in and you have the hot wire from the battery to take off the starter and 2 small wires and just pull it out.
