Roman Catholic AnswerThe priest is "another Christ". He is chosen from among men and appointed as Our Blessed Lord's representative. His primary duty is to offer the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the good of the people in his care. He is their servant. First of all, he administers the sacraments: he blessed, baptizes, anoints. He also instructs: he catechizes, he does marriage prep work, and he gives homilies (sermons). He gives spiritual direction to those who ask, hears confessions, comforts, the priest is both the leader and the servant of the parish.
