On a 2000 V6 Passport you can not check the transmission its a sealed unit. Every place other than the dealer wont touch it in my town. I would still check around you might find someone that will service it.
Same place you check the fluid level. Warning: Use only Genuine Honda ATF fluid. Do not use any substitute.
And where would that be? I can find the oil dip stick in the engine compartment. But I can not find the transmission dip stick.
My tranny is slipping in 1st gear and want to check the level to see if that is part of the problem.
Sorry it took me years to get back to this. Correct, the transmission is sealed and and there is not a dip stick. I was able to fix my problem as follows.
Dropped and cleaned the pan. Replaced the gasket and filter. Reattached pan. I also replaced the rubber hose portions on the two oil lines. Both were leaking. I then purchased the ATF fluid from Honda and filled from "fill nut" located on the side. I used a hand pump that I purchased for a few dollars from Pep Boys.
Problem solved! No longer did it slip or not want to go into gear at all. It shifted like a champ until I traded it in 2009.
Pull the tranny fluid dipstick out, and pour it down that tube with a funnel. who ever is answering this question about 1999 Honda passport needs to go back the school! duma$$ Well. That would be all fine and dandy if there were a transmission fluid dipstick in the engine compartment of a 1999 Honda Passport. Tell me where it is.
Down the hole that the dipstick is in. Do not over fill! ummm sorry but the 1997 honda passport does not have a dip stick to check or refill the tranny....does have a drain plug where you can check it...but really needs to go to proff.
Same place you check the fluid level.
Honda manual transmission oil, go to your Honda dealer.
There are 2 plugs on the side of the transmission one high and one low. Remove the higher one and if some fluid drips out or you can feel fluid right away when you stick your pinky figer in the hole it is good to go. If not then add fluid through the same hole until it runs out.
Go to your Honda dealership and get Honda Manual Transmission fluid or just buy some 10W40 and put that in there it will work either way. do not use synthetic motor oil! The Honda M/T uses genuine Honda MT Fluid and that is exactly what I suggest you go to your local Honda dealer and buy. You may pay a little more but you will know for sure you are using the correct fluid. Transmission repairs are very expensive. Want to take a chance with another fluid?
There will be a plug on the side of you transmission, pull the plug refill with fluid until it runs out. Depending on 4x4, AT, or Manual amount will vary. The transmission is a sealed transmission so it can only be checked by pulling the check plug on the side, and there is also a drain plug on the bottom.
Must use Honda transmission fluid. Go to your local dealer for the correct fluid.Answer:Tell us what year, what model of Honda do you have? Consult your owner's manual. As specified by the factory, many older Hondas use regular Dexron fluid which is available at any auto parts store.
Open the engine hood on your Honda and reach down about 3-4 inches down by the washer aid. You can see the fluid for the transmission. (refer to your owner's manual) OR go to your nearest Honda service center. They got everything for you.
Should be a plug on the side of transmission Low fluid might have caused the sychonizers (?) to overheat
