Well. That would be all fine and dandy if there were a Transmission Fluid dipstick in the engine compartment of a 1999 Honda Passport.
Tell me where it is.

To check the transmission fluid level on a 1999 Honda Passport, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is warmed up. Locate the transmission dipstick, which is usually near the back of the engine bay. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, then remove it again to check the fluid level; it should be within the marked range. If a 1999 Honda Passport goes into reverse but not drive, it could indicate a problem with the transmission, such as low fluid levels, a clogged filter, or internal damage to the transmission components. Additionally, issues with the shift linkage or a malfunctioning solenoid may prevent engagement in drive. It's advisable to check the transmission fluid level and condition first, and if the problem persists, a professional diagnosis may be necessary.

There are two plugs located underneath the transmission, the lower plug is to drain fluid and the upper plug (just about 1.5" higher than the other) is the fill in plug. To fill in fluid you need a pump or squeeze the fluid into the hole until the fluid overflows, replace the plug. I know this because I've watched the Honda mechanic perform this task. Good luck.
