Wolves in Mississippi are almost completely extinct, before colonialism most wolves in Mississippi were red wolves but now they are almost all gone. Most red wolves currently are in Texas and Louisiana. It's a shame but most wolves you hear about in Mississippi are simply coyotes.

How many wolves are in Mississippi?

No, there are no gray wolves in Mississippi, nor have there been in the past century. Reports of red wolves, a smaller less dangerous wolf, have been made throughout Mississippi though the species is reported to have died out in the 1970's. Red wolf coyote hybrids are the closest things to an actual wolf in Mississippi unless illedged sightings of red wolves are true. Not to long along a picture was in the Sun Herald, someone shot the wolf and had a picture on the front page, not sure of the breed, but it was huge!
