There are multiple passages in The Bible concerning men in vineyards. Some are in the Old Testament, but likely you are thinking of one of these three stories:

One such story is found in Matthew 20:1-16 and concerns a vineyard owning man hires vineyard workers for a day's wage. The initial workers agree, and set out to work. During the course of the day, the owner hires more workers, the last few of which are hired just an hour before the end of the day. When it came time to pay out the wages, every worker received the same wage.

Another story occurs in Matthew 21:28-32 in which a father asks his two sons to go work in the vineyard, and the first says he won't, but changes his mind and goes to work anyway, while the second son says he will, but then doesn't.

Directly after that is the Parable of the Tenants, (Matthew 21:33-41) where a vineyard owner hired tenants to take care of his vineyard, sending his servants to get the fruit from it while he is away in Another Country. The tenants, however, were evil, and beat up each servant, even killing and stoning them. He sends more servants, but they too are beat and killed. So, the owner sends his own son to collect, but the tenants kill him too.
