Islamic scholarship in the 9th century had come to the consensus that the "Masjid al-Aqsa" referred to the Temple Mount. There is no mention of "Haram ash-Sharif" (the Arabic term for the Temple Mount) or any form of "Jerusalem" in the Qur'an.
