Luke 2

41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. 44But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? 50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

The genealogies of Jesus found in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 show His roots out of Judah (Jewish) especially via Kind David. Yes, Jesus was born a Jew and at His crucifixion He is called 'King of the Jews:'

Matthew 27:37New King James Version (NKJV)

37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:

THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Did Jesus have a dad?

biologically, Joseph and also Our Father in HeavenA:Joseph was not Jesus biological father. As scripture states Jesus was born of a virgin, Mary. His only Father was God. He was raised by Joseph, Mary's husband after Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Read Luke 1:26-38.

Why is it important to say that Jesus is the son of David and the son of GOD?

Good question! To satisfy the Jewish expectations of the Messiah, Jesus had to link himself to the line of King David. Christians believe that Joseph, his father, was a direct descendant of David, but that God was the one who impregnated Mary. So linking him to both was trying to satisfy the Jews and the followers of the so-called Jesus Movement (Christianity wasn't really a religion until well after Jesus' death; it was more of a sect of Judaism). It isn't "important" to say Jesus was the son of David but the Bible describes him as being the "son of David" because Joseph (Mary's husband) was descended from King David. It says this because Jewish prophecies at the time said that the messiah would be descended from David's family. And this is where you hit on one of the main contradictions in the Bible. Remember Mary was a virgin when she became pregnant with Jesus and the Bible tells us that Jesus is God's son but if that is true then he wouldn't be descended from David - because God, not Joseph is his dad. The other alternative is that Mary wasn't a virgin and Jesus was actually Joseph's son. That would mean he would be descended from King David but he wouldn't be God's son - which defeats the whole point. He can't be both descended from David and be God's son at the same time. I know I probably went into more detail than you expected there but these things are often more complicated than you think.
