The word teenager comes from the USA.

From what I've read, until about 1952 young people were responsible young men and women who obeyed their parents, helped their parents with their younger siblings, and helped bring in some money for the family. but around 1952 large businesses realized that there was a market in young people. these large businesses told young people that it was all about them and that they had a choice. They said "You can wear what ever clothing you want," or "Why do you need to give all your money to your family, why not spend it on what you want?" this started a revolution of young people who wanted it to be all about them. not only was there marketing putting ideas in young people's heads, but there were many young Bands and singers who were breaking away from the traditional music and creating there own upbeat music made for the young people of America. these chain of events and many others are what created the modern day teenager.
