from the front of the car passenger side is front to back 1,2,3,4. drivers side front to back 5,6,7,8. Therefor cylinder 5 is the drivers side front cylinder. The coils are mounted to the valve covers.
The coils are expensive, check the the coil to plug connector,they are noted failure points on that engine and always a good idea to replace when changing plugs on the m119 E420 engine. (courtesy of benzworld.org)
